Teacher recruitment age relaxed

THE Ministry of General Education has increased the maximum recruitment age from 40 to 45 years following the recent revision of the retirement age.
The adjustment of the recruitment age follows the issuance of Statutory Instrument number 24 of 2015, which adjusted the retirement age from 55 to 60 years.
Ministry of General Education spokesperson Hillary Chipango said in an interview yesterday that this applies for this year’s applicants.
“This year, we are supposed to recruit 5,000 teachers. The minimum age for applicants has been 18 while the maximum has been 40, but we have now adjusted it upwards to 45,” Mr Chipango said.
Mr Chipango further encouraged those with primary education certificates to apply as teachers under the 2016 recruitment exercise so that they can be considered as the certificates are still valid.
