Tax-payer compliance worries Mwanakatwe

MINISTER of Finance Margaret Mwanakatwe is concerned about the low compliance levels among eligible tax-payers affecting smooth implementation of developmental projects.
Mrs Mwanakatwe said in an interview that only 57 percent of eligible tax-payers are currently fulfilling their tax obligations.
She said Government will strive to raise tax compliance levels to 100 percent by strengthening its tax administration as opposed to introducing new taxes to spur economic growth.
“Tax compliance is at below 60 percent of the eligible taxpayers and it remains a challenge. Corporates and citizens should note that the more tax evasion we have, the more few people will face the tax burden,” Mrs Mwanakatwe said.
