SWEDISH outfit Djurgaden IF are chasing for the signature of under-20 national team midfielder Edward Chilufya.
Chilufya, who features for Division One Mpande Youth Soccer Academy, has also attracted interest from Spanish La Liga outfit Celta Vigo.
Chilufya impressed the European clubs with his stunning performance during the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations, which Zambia won.
Chilufya, Patson Daka and South Africa striker Luther Singh scored four goals apiece.
Mpande Youth Soccer Academy proprietor Lisbon Mpande said in an interview from Kasama yesterday that Chilufya is next month expected to leave for Sweden for medicals.
“Yes, I can confirm that he [Chilufya] is leaving for Sweden on April 1. Initially, he was supposed to leave on Thursday but due to national team commitments, we have postponed his departure,” Mpande said.
He said Celta Vigo have also expressed interest in signing the player but Chilufya has opted to trek to Sweden.
“He received about two invitation letters but we could not disappoint the team from Sweden because they were the first ones to write to us. As I am talking, all the travel documents are in place.
“We will travel to Sweden once he is done with the Four Nation tournament in South Korea…he is going there [Sweden] for medicals; once he passes, then automatically he will join the team,” Mpande said.
Meanwhile, the under-20 national team regrouped in Lusaka yesterday ahead of the Four Nations tournament in South Korea with technical advisor Wedson Nyirenda urging the players to continue working hard.
Nyirenda said the players are in good shape except for goalkeeper Mangani Banda, who had a fever.
The tournament will run from March 24 to April 2 and the under-20 are expected to leave tomorrow.
The tournament has attracted Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Zambia and hosts South Korea.
