SWASCO receives funds for reticulation system

CHOMBA MUSIKA, Choma
THE Devolution Trust Fund (DTF) has given a K2 million grant to Southern Water and Sewerage Company Limited (SWASCO) for improvement of the water reticulation system to benefit 12,000 households in Chandamali township in Choma.
SWASCO corporate affairs manager Liversage Mulinda said in a statement issued yesterday that the project, which is expected to be implemented within a year, will involve laying 25 kilometers of water supply network pipes in the township.
“SWASCO has received a grant of about K2.7 million from DTF for water reticulation in the low cost area of Chandamali township. The project will involve laying about 25 kilometers of water supply network to connect about 2,000 households,” Mr Mulinda said.
He also said the water utility will install 1,900 water meters to ensure that customers only pay for the water they use.
Mr Mulinda said the Chandamali water project is timely, especially that the area has been experiencing erratic water supply.
