Suspected son killer surrenders

A BUSINESSMAN who allegedly shot dead his 19-year-old son for wearing his mother’s trousers has surrendered himself to the police in Chipata.

Eastern Province commissioner of police Alex Chilufya told journalists that Martin Mwale, 54, handed himself to Chipata Central police station yesterday around 05:00 hours.
Mr Chilufya said Mr Mwale allegedly fled Chipata after allegedly shooting his son early on the night of August 3 and went to neighbouring Malawi where he has businesses.
“I can confirm that Mr Mwale surrendered himself in the early hours of today (yesterday) to our officers here at Chipata Central police station,” he said.
Mwale, who has been charged with murder, shocked his family in Kapata township when he allegedly shot dead his son, Martin Mwale Junior, who was a Grade 12 pupil at Chipata Trades Technical Secondary School.
