Supreme Court dismisses LAZ appeal on POA

THE Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal by the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) against a High Court judgment in which it was decided that the Public Order Act (POA) does not violate the constitution.
The LAZ had appealed against a High Court decision stating that Sections (5) and (6) of the POA does not violate Article 20 of the constitution which guarantees the freedom to hold meetings, procession or demonstrations.
LAZ contended that the provisions of the Act violate articles 20 and 21 of the constitution which guarantee the freedoms of assembly.
