Supreme Court dismisses HH’s academic exercise

THE Supreme Court has declined to refer the matter in which United Party for National Development president Hakainde Hichilema and five others were charged with treason to the High Court for retrial because it has been overtaken by events.
In 2017, Mr Hichilema, Hamusonde Hamaleka, Muleya Hachinda, Laston Mulilanduba, Prestorious Haloba and Wallace Chakawa were charged with treason, which was later withdrawn through a nolle prosequi.
Prior to their case being withdrawn, Mr Hichilema and five others petitioned the High Court contending, among others, that their right to liberty had been violated.
