Support teachers, State urges corporates

KELVIN CHONGO, Lusaka
GOVERNMENT has implored the business community to supplement its efforts in improving the welfare of teachers.
Acting permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Child Education Binwell Mwansa said the corporate world has not done enough to uplift the livelihood of teachers.
Mr Mwansa said this on Thursday when Betternow Finance Company (BFC) donated 600 t-shirts worth K40, 000, towards the commemoration of Teachers Day which falls on Monday. The permanent secretary said teachers are important as they educate the nation.
“The staff employed by the corporate world is as a result of the input of teachers,” he said.
BFC managing director Noel Nkoma said the company acknowledges the importance of teachers and the role they play in society.
“We know that Government has been passionate to resolve some of the challenges teachers face and we saw the need to supplement its (Government) efforts,” he said.
