Zambia records 2nd win
CECILIA NAYAME reports:THE Zambia under-19 cricket national team recorded their second win at the on-going International Cricket Council (ICC) Africa Division One Championship after a surprise victory over Uganda on Friday.
According to results posted on the ICC website, Zambia were surprise victors over Uganda after winning by 85 runs at New Wanderers Stadium in Namibia.
Zambia Cricket Union (ZCU) general manager Nitin Naik expressed happiness at the improvement of the team.
“The team is slowly improving. At least there is some improvement. I only hope that they (players) will work hard to win the remaining matches.
“We started on a bad note. I only hope the team will do well in the remaining games,” Naik said.
Zambia, who lost the first and second game to Kenya and hosts Namibia, beat Botswana last Wednesday for their first win.
In other matches, Namibia extended their unbeaten run with a 24-run win over Kenya.
Botswana enhanced their chances of qualification with a stunning 222-run win over Sierra Leone.
Tanzania continued their miserable run at the championship with their fifth consecutive loss as they went down by seven wickets to Nigeria.
Zambia will play Sierra Leon today.
Their last game will be played tomorrow against Tanzania.
The tournament, which started on August 28, will end on Thursday.
