US worship leader Ron Kenoly tours Zambia

NUMEROUS Grammy award-winning US praise and worship leader Ron Kenoly is in the country to hold and share the word of God through seminars and gospel concerts.
Meanwhile, ZICAS College in Lusaka is hosting an “all-white outfit” gospel concert on August 28 to raise funds for the less-privileged students.

By press time, Dr Kenoly, one of the world’s renowned recording and performing artistes, was billed to perform at the Woodlands Stadium on Friday afternoon before thrilling his fans at the Taj Pamodzi Hotel later in the evening for a dinner concert.

According to the organisers, Bethel City Church International, Dr Kenoly was also last evening scheduled to entertain his growing legion of followers at the Musa Kasonka Stadium n Ndola on the Copperbelt in the afternoon and later a follow-up sold-out concert at the Mukuba Hotel.

For Kitwe residents, all those who relish to be filled with the blessed hymns of Dr Kenoly will be expected to throng the Kitwe showgrounds this afternoon and for diners, the gospel performer goes to the Edinburgh Hotel this evening for some soul-searching gospel and appealing gospel grooves.

Dr Kenoly comes to Zambia after having toured extensively across the globe, where he has worshiped and interceded at numerous seminar and gospel concerts.

His songs such as God Is Good, King of Kings, Jesus We Adore You, His Worthy and many others, have seen the multi-talented gospel music luminary share the musical stages with the likes of refined gospel artistes and worship leaders, including Don McKlurkin, Don Moen, Lemmy LeBlanc, evangelist TD Jakes, gospel siblings, Australi’s Hillsong United, Cece and Bebe Winans as well as other African gospel artistes dotted across the continent.

And according to some news reaching Gospel Grooves last week, ZICAS will be hosting an outrageous “all-white” outfit gospel concert, at which guests will be strictly required to wear white outfits, at its campus on Dedan Kimathi Road in Lusaka.

The show, according to the organisers, is aimed at raising funds in collaboration with several firms, for selected students who wish to attend college at its institution but cannot afford due to insufficient funds.

So, with a bit of some traditional and inspiring gospel tracks sauced with some R&B/hip genres, the youthful bash’s theme will seemingly attract scores of teeny-boppers who wish to praise the Lord with a song and dance.

Some renowned and internationally acclaimed gospel pundits are scheduled to perform at the one day bash and details will be exclusively on this column when and just when the deal has been signed, sealed and delivered!

And from Kitwe’s United Church of Zambia (UCZ)’s Kwacha congregation, it has been exactly two years since the Disciples Church choir released their uplifting praise and worship album titled Cimbamilonga and Cibinda Wabubumbo.

Over the last couple of years, I have been glued to the small screens viewing the videos from this Kambenja Vunda-inspired VCD but still wonder when we should have this awesome group’s next project.

With most of the songs composed and produced by Vunda, Msiska Mbao, Richard Kaulu and Robert Chikonde, the Disciples’ astonishing VCD has since its releases been fulfilling among the gospel music worshipers.

Most of their song such as the praise track, Lesa Mukulu (God is great), Pilibuka (repent), Kamupalimine (let me get close to the Almighty) and Kalwila (God is my fighter), are all resounding gospel songs in their own class.

Often compared to the music of Vunda and the huge Mt. Sinai choir, the Disciples choir’s other tunes; Kumulu, Nganaliya, Ishiwilwenu and Sansuleni, have also found some precious time on most local airwaves.
Where is gospel star Nathan Nyirenda? Since storming the local music charts with his heartfelt CHAPRO award-winning album – Mwe Makufi - four years, I have heard very little of this great instrumentalist.

It was only last Sunday when I saw a clip of his old videos on the small screens and I quickly searched for his old tracks that truly brought some hope and encouragement in many a follower of Christ’s heart.

Remember the songs I Wish, Adada, Re Baeti and the lovely Chikondi? Well, these oldies but goodies of songs, along with the mournful track titled Before I die, the assurance of Jesus’ dying for our iniquities on the cross in order to save our souls called In The Cross and Mamba Sawa Sawa, have always found a special place in many of those who believe that Lord is saviour, healer and redeemer and he should be worshipped and praised at all times. Amen
