We made love at a guest house, woman testifies in court

By  FRANK NYAMBE

A 23-year-old woman whose lover was denying responsibility of her pregnancy, revealed in a local court in Lusaka that she used to make love with him in a guest house.

Priscah Mpanza of George township said she used to make love with Richard Kabaso, 29, of the same township in a guest house.

Mpanza was testifying in a case in which her mother, Febby Mulembano sued Kabaso for deflowering and impregnating Mpanza.

Mulembano told the Matero local court that she was surprised to learn that her daughter, Mpanza, had a boyfriend and that she had been impregnated.

She said that Mpanza told her that the man responsible wanted to marry her and had even given her a picture of himself.  The picture was shown to the court.

Mulembano said when Kabaso was summoned, he admitted knowing Mpanza but he denied impregnating her.

When asked by Kabaso on who she knew that he was the one who impregnated Mpanza, Mulembano told the court that it was evident that he and her daughter were lovers and that he had even given her (Mpanza) his picture.

Mulembano also told the court that when she met Kabaso's parents over the matter, they suggested that there be a DNA test to authenticate parentage, because Kabaso was denying responsibility.

In defence, Kabaso denied impregnating Mpanza because he did never made love with her, although he had wanted to marry her.

He said that he came to Lusaka from Mununga Village on November 25, 2005 for business and that he met Mpanza in March 2006.

He said he promised to marry her when she told him that she was single and that he gave her his picture because he was not always available for her.

Kabaso said that he stopped visiting Mpanza when she accused him of being a married person and that he wondered why she named him as a man responsible of her pregnancy in April when she gave birth.

"I gave Mpanza my photo because she loved me and I am denying the responsibility because I did not sleep with her," he said.

Mpanza told the court that she  knew Kabaso in September 2005 when he told her that he wanted to marry her.

She revealed that on three occasion Kabaso asked her to escort  him to his friend but he instead took her in a guest house near Katambalala market in George compound where he undressed her and they made love.

Mpanza said that Kabaso assured her that he would solve anything that would arise from their relationship.

Asked by the court if she could lead the court to the guest house, Mpanza said she could.

Senior presiding Justice Elipher Mwewa adjourned the case to June 14, 2006 for a scene visit.
