| The guard of honour is ready for inspection sir...THIS LIFE

When the tall, smartly dressed, green-uniformed
paramilitary police recruit stood erect before me, gave a powerful salute and shouted some
words in Chinese, it was quite obvious that such a fantastic display of military drills
was the beginning of what promised to be a spectacular event billed for that chilly Friday
afternoon in Beijing, the Peoples Republic of China.
The event was a passout parade for graduating recruits belonging to the Beijing Armed
Troop Company (counterpart of our own paramilitary or mobile police) responsible for
guarding foreign embassies in the Chinese capital. (Full story)
