MINISTER of National Guidance and Religious Affairs Godfridah Sumaili has bemoaned the increasing levels of infidelity among
Reverend Sumaili said in an interview yesterday that it is unfortunate that immorality is on the rise among married people leading to some couples killing each other.
She said if only couples can follow the principle of love and submission in marriage, certain problems like divorce and killing one another cannot be there.
“We are having a lot of marriage problems these days because of immorality. Some women are submitting to too many men other than their husbands. This is what is allowing the devil to penetrate into our families,” Reverend Sumaili said.
She said married couples should be mindful that morality is enshrined in the Zambian constitution because it is the basis of strong families.
“Morality and ethics are enshrined in our constitution. This entails being in right standing with God, your spouse and society at large, including living according to acceptable moral standards,” Reverend Sumaili said.
She said the Bible has given enough guidance on how marriage ought to be handled but very few people adhere to it.
Reverend Sumaili urged the Church to come in and offer as much counselling as possible to married couples and those seeking to join the institution.
“The Lord said husbands should love their wives the same way Christ loves the Church and advised wives to be submissive to their men in all things. Loving your wife entails being faithful,” she said.
