A 44-YEAR-OLD woman of Mwinilunga district in North-Western Province is nursing serious burns in hospital after she poured petrol on her body and set herself ablaze in an attempt to commit suicide.
North-Western Province deputy commissioner of police Chola Katanga said in an interview yesterday that the incident happened on Sunday around 18:00 hours in Mudanyama.
He said Dorothy Kambinga, 44, of Kaseji village in Chief Chibwika’s area sustained superficial burns all over her body.
“The motive behind her action is that she was being accused of practising witchcraft in the village,” he said.
Mr Katanga said the woman is still admitted to Mwinilunga District Hospital and described her condition as unstable.
