State’s response to disasters hailed

MSUZI Bridge under construction.

ANGELA MUCHINSHI and PRISCILLA MWILA, Lundazi
IN DECEMBER last year, Msuzi Bridge was washed away by heavy rains bringing to a halt activities of those who depended on the road to carry out various activities to earn a living.
On the day the bridge collapsed, it cut off Lundazi and Chama from the rest of the country leaving over 500, 000 people stranded.
Due to this disconnection, vehicles were directed to use Zumwanda diversion, a stretch of about 32 kilometres from Chipata to Lundazi town.
Some residents talked to who depended on the road to earn a living complained about how they were negatively affected by the collapse of the bridge.
They complained that their businesses had become slow since the incident and could not wait for the bridge to be completed as they made little or nothing on a daily basis.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
