State wants more goats for Saudi Arabia market

GOVERNMENT will continue to focus on growing the livestock sub-sector as it positions itself to penetrate the Saudi Arabian market.
Minister of Finance Margaret Mwanakatwe said when she unveiled the 2019 national budget that, given the rising market potential for livestock, especially for goats, sheep and cattle, Government will facilitate access to markets with strategic focus on the exportation of goats to Saudi Arabia.
In 2016, Saudi Arabia requested Zambia to start supplying one million goats per year to that country.
Mrs Mwanakatwe said focus will continue to be on livestock breed improvement through stocking and restocking, artificial insemination, and construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure
