KELVIN CHONGO, Lusaka
MINISTER of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo told Parliament on Wednesday that Government plans to decentralise the processing
of biometric data to all provincial centres.
Mr Kampyongo said the uptake of fingerprints is done in all provincial centres but that the processing is done at Zambia Police Service headquarters in Lusaka.
He was responding to a question from Chipili member of Parliament (MP) Jewis Chabi (independent) who wanted to know whether or not there are plans to decentralise the processing of biometric data to provincial centres.
Mr Chabi also wanted to know when the decentralisation process of biometric data will start. This was during the question-for-oral-answer session.
In response, Mr Kampyongo said the decentralisation process will only commence when funds are made available for the exercise.
“The time frame to start decentralising the processing of biometric data to provincial centres will depend on availability of funds,” he said.
