THE ministries of Agriculture and Gender have partnered in a gender empowerment programme targeting women co-operative movements in a move to boost food security.

Ministry of Agriculture permanent secretary Julius Shawa said in a gender-responsive programme, the two ministries are distributing farm inputs and equipment to women-run cooperatives.

He said his ministry has mainstreamed gender in programme implementation because of the important role that women play in food production and making the nation food secure.
“Government and its cooperating partners are implementing a nutrition programme that is directly targeting women and children,” Mr Shawa said in an interview.
