State should split Lusaka Water to improve service delivery

Dear editor,
IT IS becoming clear that the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) can no longer cope with some emerging challenges such as burst pipes.
It has taken the water utility almost a week to resolve the burst pipe around Kangwa area in Chilenje which rendered most parts of Chilenje, Kabwata and Libala without water.
The same happened on Chipalo Road when Avic broke a water pipe and it took LWSC almost a month to repair it.
The ad hoc repairs were laughable because they seemed to have been done by people who have never done plumbing, without proper tools and materials.
It is time Government started looking at dismantling LWSC and form two or three more utility companies to serve the capital city better.
