State puts in place child protection units

LINDA NYONDO, Rufunsa
GOVERNMENT says it has put in place child protection units in most parts of the country to ensure that children are protected.
Lusaka Province Minister Japhen Mwakalombe said in Rufunsa recently during the commemoration of the Day of an African Child that there is need to raise awareness on the importance of child protection.

“As we protect our children, we should speed up opportunities where they participate in decision-making,’’ he said.
He said Government is committed to protect, empower and raise awareness on the importance of child protection.
He said Government will also ensure that all opportunities to empower children are utilised.
Mr Mwakalombe said the Day of an African Child creates an opportunity as African states to remember the 1976 massacre of young children in South Africa prompting the African Union to remember it.
He said the day reminds stakeholders on the importance of addressing the ills children face in Zambia and the world at large.
Mr Mwakalombe said children are able to voice out on the different issues that affect their rights.
