PRISCILLA MWILA, Lusaka
GOVERNMENT is open to dialogue on the proposal by the Millers Association of Zambia (MAZ) to reintroduce consumption subsidy on maize to cushion high mealie-meal prices, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Given Lubinda has said.
In an interview yesterday, Mr Lubinda, however, advised MAZ not to rush to the media if it has pending issues regarding the price of mealie-meal
“We had meetings with MAZ last week on Tuesday and Wednesday and agreed on a number of things. I am unaware of that request from them as they have not approached us on that matter.
“However, if they still have issues with what we agreed on, they should seek audience with the ministry and dialogue,†Mr Lubinda said.
He said he was not able to comment further on the matter because he is unaware of the appeal by MAZ.
