State implores unions to dialogue, provide sustainable solutions

GOVERNMENT has implored unions to embrace the value of dialogue and positive criticism whilst providing sustainable solutions to the challenges the nation is facing.
Livingstone district commissioner Omar Munsanje said Government wants unions that operate within the laws.
“We don’t want unions that only promote anarchy, but we want unions that promote industrial harmony,” he said.
He was speaking during the closing of the Civil Servants and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (CSAWUZ) 9th quadrennial conference in Livingstone on Friday, which ushered in a new executive with the top leadership going unopposed.
Mr Munsanje said Zambia needs determined, focused and courageous leaders, if the country is to develop socially, economically and politically.
He said Government is committed to providing an enabling environment for unions to continue performing their noble duty.
Mr Munsanje said trade unions have achieved a lot in promoting and protecting the rights of workers adding that the newly elected executive would continue embracing the values of solidarity.
“My hope is that this hard work should continue for purposes of improving the union so as to effectively represent the members,” he said.
