State empowering disabled

HENRY SINYANGWE, Kasama
GOVERNMENT, through the National Trust Fund (NTF) for the disabled, has embarked on a countrywide issuance of loans to people living with disabilities.
During the handover of cheques worth K25,000 to 10 members of Chikumanino Disabled Club in Kasama yesterday, district commissioner Beauty Namukoko said Government recognises the link between poverty and disability, hence the provision of loans to the disabled.
Ms Namukoko said the provision of the loans to persons with disabilities is meant to enable the beneficiaries to venture into entrepreneurial activities for them to be self-employed and improve their welfare.
And NTF director Festus Lubinga said the loans are a revolving fund, hence the need for the beneficiaries to ensure they work hard and pay back in good time so that the money could be redistributed to other physically challenged groups.
Mr Lubinga stated that once the loans are paid in good time, the beneficiaries will be given another opportunity to apply for bigger loans.
