GOVERNMENT last year collected K279 million in toll fees and exceeded its target of K250 million, Minister of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Yamfwa Mukanga has said.
Mr Mukanga told Parliament in a ministerial statement on Wednesday that Government collected K47 million above the K250 million target set by the Road Development Agency (RDA).
Mr Mukanga also said construction of toll gates will start in the second quarter of this year.
He said Government has targeted to collect about K350 million in toll fees this year.
The minister also said RDA has developed a maintenance strategy.
Meanwhile, Mr Mukanga said RDA has partnered with the Zambia National Service (ZNS)to rehabilitate feeder roads in Zambia.
Mr Mukanga said Government is committed to constructing roads throughout the country to ensure that Zambia is transformed from a landlocked to a land-linked country.
Mr Mukanga also said the road construction projects have created 18,000 jobs since inception.
