StanChart launches ‘Road to Anfield’

STANDARD Chartered Bank has launched the ‘2015 Road to Anfield Trophy’ five-aside tournament.
The event is aimed at selecting a team to represent the country during next month’s Southern Region football qualifiers.
Speaking during the launch in Lusaka yesterday, chief executive officer Andrew Okai said it is the bank’s desire to continue contributing to the development of football.
Okai is optimistic the games will reinforce the partnership with English Premiership side Liverpool.
“We are delighted to hold the Standard Chartered Trophy campaign in Zambia. The trophy is hinged on the bank’s Liverpool FC sponsorship. As we all know, sport is a unifying factor, and through sport we can bring people together.
“As Standard Chartered Bank, it is our wish to see a team from Zambia competing at the tournament in Liverpool and eventually win the trophy. I am from Ghana but I would like Zambia to win the trophy,” Okai said.
He said over 16 teams that include retail clients and teams from the media will compete in the event.
Botswana, Zimbabwe and hosts Zambia are countries expected to compete in the qualifiers set for March 16 in Lusaka.
The winner will qualify for the finals slated for May 7-8 in Liverpool.
