STANBIC Bank says the institution stands ready to support diversification of Zambia’s mining industry to include cobalt, which is a key component in the manufacturing of electric cars.
The world’s largest consumer of metals, China, alongside countries such as the United Kingdom, France and Japan, plans to ban the sale of fossil [fuel] driven vehicles by 2040.
In an interview at the ongoing 2018 Investing in African Mining Indaba, the bank’s head of corporate banking investment, Helen Lubamba, said the mining industry can still play an important role in the country’s economic diversification agenda.
