Sports Council gives HAZ K25,000

THE National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) has given the Handball Association of Zambia (HAZ) K25,000 for staging of the Zone Six International Handball Federation tournament.
NSCZ general secretary Innocent Chalabesa said at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday that the sports motherbody is happy to be associated with the hosting of the tournament.
“We know hosting events of big magnitude is a daunting task and issues of finance play a pivotal role in putting something together. As Sports Council, we are happy with the efforts they [HAZ executive] continue to make in promoting the development of handball in the country,” Chalabesa said.
The six-day tournament kicks off on Sunday at Lusaka’s Olympic Youth Development Centre has attracted eight countries.
Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia have confirmed participation.
And HAZ communications manager Josab Changa said Zambia will be represented by the men’s and women’s teams.
“We are very proud of the performance of our teams and we are very confident that we will win the trophy,” Changa said.
The tournament will be held under the theme ‘50 years of independence by strengthening regional cooperation through handball’.
