EARLY MARRIAGE RURAL COOKING CHILD BRIDE

SHIKANDA KAWANGA, Livingstone
CHIEF Simwatachela of the Tonga people in Zimba district has called for the stiffening of laws on early marriages to help curb the retrogressive vice that is rampant in most rural parts of Zambia.
Chief Simwatachela said the girl child must be given an opportunity to get educated.
Speaking in an interview in Zimba district recently, the chief said traditional leaders must be in the fore front in fighting the vice if there is to be meaningful development in their chiefdoms.
Chief Simwatachela said his chiefdom has managed to reduce cases of early marriages because of working closely with the police to report such cases.
