South African maintains grip in Livingstone

SOUTH African Grand Master (GM) Kenny Solomon has maintained the lead at the ongoing Zone 4.3 Individual Chess Championship in

Livingstone after beating International Master (IM) Richmond Phiri in a thrilling round four clash.
The two players had gone three matches without defeat but Solomon proved his class.
Solomon moved to four points while Phiri remained on three at par with compatriot IMs Daniel Jere, Chitumbo Mwali, Stanley Chumfwa and Andrew Kayonde.
Candidate Master (CM) Musatwe Simutowe also moved to three points after defeating IM Pedro Aderito of Angola.
And in the women’s section, Botswana’s Women International Master (WIM) Boikhutso Mudongo has maintained grip with 3.5 points.
Mudongo is at par with compatriots WIM Tshepiso Lopang and South Africa’s Women Fide Master (WFM) Aleida De Bruyn and Women Candidate Master (WCM) Michelle Fisher but leads because of a better tie breaker.
Zambia’s WCM Constance Mbatha is trailing behind on 2.5 points.
