Sort out 20% for local contractors

Dear editor,
GOVERNMENT has made it clear that foreign contractors must award 20 percent sub-contracts to Zambian local contractors. This is the only way our people will be able to get jobs and benefit from the national cake.
The 2009 Citizens Economic Empowerment Act on the same needs to be revisited by our lawmakers as soon as possible to remove any doubts over the 20 percent for our contractors.
If, for example, a foreign contractor in Luanshya has been given a US$200 million contract, US$20 million must go to a local contractor.
This money can circulate in Luanshya and create jobs for people for at least 24 or 36 months, depending on the duration of the contract.
