THE Road Development Agency (RDA) has signed a K13.7 million contract with Brian Colquhoun Hugh Oâ€™Donnell and Partners (BCHOD) consulting engineers to supervise periodic maintenance works on the 288.4km Solwezi-Mwinilunga road in North-Western Province.

Solwezi-Mwinilunga road gets K13.7machieving appropriate holding maintenance of the road surface awaiting comprehensive rehabilitation.
BCHOD will also conduct technical and financial supervision to ensure that works are carried out in accordance with contract specifications.
â€œThe periodic maintenance will significantly improve the Solwezi-Mwinilunga road, which has been in bad condition for a long time. This is an important link that will boost economic activities which include agriculture, tourism, trade and commerce,â€ Mr Chiwala said at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday.
He said BCHOD will mainly supervise the reconstruction of selected sections, pothole patching, double surface dressing application, shoulder construction, drainage structures and ancillary road works.
Speaking on behalf of BCHOD, Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) policy, public relations and national development vice-president George Sitali said the consultant will not allow any mediocre works by Inyatsi, the contractor engaged to work on Solwezi-Mwinilunga road.
â€œAs BCHOD we appreciate RDA for entrusting us with this big task and I can assure the nation that we will make sure that all works are done accordingly, because we have been hearing complaints of shoddy works by many contractors, which shall not be condoned by BCHOD,â€ Mr Sitali said.
