Small-scale farmers backed

TRYNESS TEMBO, Lusaka
GOVERNMENT should provide extension services to small-scale farmers in the goat sub-sector to enable them to start exporting into Saudi Arabia market, a trade association has said.
In April, Government announced that it will soon seal a deal with Saudi Arabia that will see Zambia start exporting goats and sheep to that country.
But Southern Africa Cross- Border Traders Association (SACBTA) president Jacob Makambwe said most farmers who rear goats are found in rural areas and have little knowledge on how to properly nurture their animals to the required standards.
In an interview recently, Mr Makambwe said Government also needs to teach the farmers on the modalities of the type of goats that Saudi Arabia needs.
