Simfukwe jr wins Nkana Open

HONE SIAME – Kitwe
LUSAKA’S Aaron Simfukwe Junior on Saturday won the 2015 Nkana Open Championship at Nkana Golf Club in Kitwe.
Simfukwe of Chilanga Golf Club posted 152 gross in a 36-hole tournament that attracted golfers from across the country.
Chainama’s Sydney Mweemba finished second to brighten his chances of making it into the final team that will represent Zambia in next month’s Mopani Copper Mines/Redpath Mining Zambia Open and Zambia Sugar Open Championships.
Simfukwe walked away with a fridge while Mweemba received a microwave oven.
This was the second qualifying round for the two prestigious international tournaments with the third round set for Mufulira next month.
Nkana captain Elario Musonda, who released the results in Kitwe, was impressed with the quality of golf displayed by the participants.
“It was a very competitive and successful tournament. A team of 10 amateur players will be selected after the final qualifying round for the Mopani Copper Mines/Redpath Mining Zambia Open and Zambia Sugar Open Championships,” Musonda said.
The first qualifying round was held in Lusaka.
Zambia has been allocated 10 slots by Sunshine Tours for amateur golfers to participate in the two international events.
