Siliya makes clarion call for journalists

DORA Siliya.

CHOMBA MUSIKA, Lusaka
MINISTER of Information and Broadcasting Services Dora Siliya has challenged journalists in the country to unite and work together to safeguard the profession from quacks.
Ms Siliya said as a fourth estate, the local media should establish a body which should advocate media professionalism to help distinguish trained journalists from masqueraders in the dissemination of news.
The minister, who is also Chief Government Spokesperson, said this in Lusaka yesterday during an interaction with media personnel.
“We [journalists] have to defuse the public’s perception about us; that it’s [all] about the brown envelopes. No one will take us seriously if we don’t do so ourselves,” Ms Siliya said at the event themed: ‘The future of journalism in Zambia: How do we safeguard the profession?’http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
