NANCY SIAME, Lusaka
THE Zambia Chamber of Mines (ZCM) has called for a review of a statutory instrument (SI) issued by Government to compel transporters of heavy goods to ferry 30 percent of their cargo on rail.
ZCM deputy chief executive officer Talent Ng’andwe said in a statement yesterday that the SI should be revoked or redrafted with substantial changes because it is not indicative of a nation whose economy is largely dependent on mining.
“The mining sector would of course wholeheartedly support re-development of the Zambian railways by Government. But this SI contributes nothing to that development,” he said.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
