Show leadership, Luanshya councillors told

LUANSHYA mayor Gordon Siwale has urged councillors in the district to show leadership in the manner they execute their civic duties.
Speaking during the full council meeting held last week in Luanshya, Mr Siwale said he was very disappointed with the manner some councillors conduct themselves.
“We must understand why we are here and who we are, we must show leadership always. People outside there expect a lot from us,” Mr Siwale said.
He said this after the meeting was informed that PF Baluba ward 23 councillor Gershom Mpundu was barred from attending the meeting by some cadres because he was suspended from the PF for allegedly working in with the opposition UPND.
Mr Siwale said instead of just deciding to stay away from the meeting, Mr Mpundu should have informed his office or that of the town clerk about the development.
“I am not aware that he has been barred from attending the meeting, I am very disappointed about this, let us be serious , let us be real leaders not fake ones,” Mr Siwale said.
He said councillors must utilise their valuable time on projects that would benefit majority of their electorate instead of spending much of their time on non-issues.
And Mr Siwale has warned councillors in the district to desist from engaging themselves in illegal land allocation.
He said councillors must ensure that every citizen in the district has access to equitable land distribution and avoid a situation where only very few rich people have access to land.
“There is rampant distribution of land illegally. We do not want to see a situation where so many people have no access to land, no. There must be equitable distribution of land,” he said.
The civic leader also instructed chief council officer to ensure that no land is given illegally in the district but that all laid down procedures are followed before land is given out.
