KELVIN KACHINGWE, Lusaka
IN a show of confidence in his leadership, the National Association of Media Arts (NAMA) annual general meeting held in Lusaka on Monday retained Patrick “Sauloshi” Salubusa as chairman.
The meeting held at Mwanamuke Restaurant at the Chez Ntemba premises in Kabulonga, saw Sauloshi go unopposed together with the majority of his executive members. Lee Mwanza is the vice chairman, Memory Mulewa publicity secretary, while Lottie Siame is the treasurer.
Comedian Isaac Chamba was elected secretary general after beating Albert Muteba and Samson Mumba. He polled 36 votes, while Albert and Samson grossed 15 and three respectively.
Meanwhile, National Arts Council of Zambia (NAC) chairperson Mulenga Kapwepwe has praised NAMA for consistently holding its annual general meetings including elective ones which have resulted in the smooth transfer of power from one executive to another.
“I wish to commend NAMA for this consistency and encourage them to continue. Stable leadership and smooth transfer of office has become a landmark quality for NAMA,” she said at the official opening of the meeting.
Kapwepwe also said NAC is committed to work with the association in keeping their governance systems working and serving the purpose of their establishment. She said as a council, they believe that well-run associations are key to the development of the creative industries.
“For an association to be well run, it requires the input and support of its members…I wish to remind NAMA members that NAMA is their association. It is up to them to make it work. No one else will make NAMA functional if the members neglect the association.
“For NAMA to work, all creative media artistes should join NAMA, pay membership fees and offer timely and objective input to the leadership. NAMA will not be made by armchair critics but by you working hard and doing your best for a better NAMA,” she said.
