Roberto, Cleo Ice Queen get AFRIMA nominations

NKOLE NKOLE, Lusaka
ZAMBIA’S Roberto and Cleo Ice Queen have again been nominated for the fourth edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) scheduled to take place in Dallas, Texas this year.

The awards will take place at the live music venue, House of Blues, and it is the second year in a row that both artistes have been nominated for an AFRIMA award.
Roberto and Ice Queen have been nominated alongside other well-known African acts in both categories where they feature.
Two new categories have been added to the 2017 edition of the awards; the Best Lusophone and the Best Francophone.
South Africa leads the Best Male Southern Africa category that features Roberto. Cassper Nyovest, Black Coffee, AKA, Mtee, Nasty C and Donald are all representing South Africa under the category. Others are Zimbabwe’s Jah Prayza and Namibia’s The Dogg.
Cleo Ice Queen has to beat the likes of South Africa’s Lira, Babes Wodumo, Zahara and Bucie. The four other artistes in the category are Sally Boss Madam and Chikune from Namibia, Mozambique’s Lizha James and Zimbabwe’s Pah Chihera.
Not surprisingly, the AFRIMA Best Male West Africa category is dominated by Nigerian artists with Wizkid, Mr Eazi, Davido, Falz and Tekno all featuring.
Others are Ghana’s Stonebwoy, Togo’s Toofan, Senegal’s Moh Dediouf and Ivory Coast’s Serge Beynaud.
The highest nominations in the Best Female West Africa category are tied between Nigeria and Ghana with Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade and Simi competing against Ghana’s Efya and Mz Vee and Becca.
Other interesting categories are the Artist of the Year and Video of the Year.
Nigeria leads again in the nominations for Artist of the Year with Flavour, Wizkid, Davido, Tekno and Mr Eazi.
Angola, Uganda, Tanzania, DR Congo and South Africa have a nomination each in the same category.
The AFRIMA Video of the Year will be decided from 11 nominations and Nigeria leads this category too with the four nominees: Wizkid, Davido, Runtown and Wande Coal.
