Rising Heroes: Live it, Speak it, Work it

Shambala

WHEN you meet Shambala Diangamo, you become immediately aware of someone who has decided to write the script of her life and be the heroine of her story.
At 23, she is a psychosocial counsellor and lead peer mentor under the Positive Linkages Initiative at the National HIV/AIDS/STI/TB Council (NAC) with support from UNICEF.
She also volunteers at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) and at the Paediatric Centre of Excellence, where she mainly deals with adolescents who are HIV positive and are on treatment, offering counselling to those who have just been enrolled for treatment.
Part of the counselling offered seeks to discover if adolescents know their HIV status or know how they acquired HIV for those who are HIV positive.
Shambala is living with HIV and at the centre where she volunteers, parents who struggle with disclosure to their HIV positive children are assisted and advised.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
