GLORIOUS Band says its ‘retreat’ has ended and it’s next month set to launch a ten-track album titled The Revival of Glorious Band, to signify their come-back on the Zambian music scene.
The Chingola-based outfit which came to fame in early 2000 with its album Isambo lyamfwa, almost went into oblivion after it lost three members within a sequence of years. The deceased band members were drummer Obias Mbyangu, who was followed by lead guitarist Jonathan Chibesa Kunda, who was also band leader, and Allan Kasafu, who was backing vocalist.
Band spokesperson Derrick Mwansa, in an interview in Chingola, said the band has been in the studio working silently and is expected to release a ten-track album next month, of their two albums that have been done so far.
The Isambo Lyamfwa singers will later be launching another album labelled Ichuma Camulopa (blood money), a Bemba tune which talks about ill-gotten wealth.
“We have done two projects, but we will be releasing one titled the Revival of Glorious Band. For sure we have revived ourselves and people should be ready for our album by early next month,” Mwansa said.
He said the band was on retreat to prepare for a rebirth, and now that the “fasting” period is over, their fans should ready themselves for quality music and live performances.
After the death of the three members, Mwansa and Christian Kenda have managed to re-organise the band by recruiting two new members namely Lloyd Kaluba and Kennedy Mulenga.
He said their music would soon hit the airwaves, saying the four-man band is ready to take on the music challenge.
Mwansa, however, is appealing to the business community and other well-wishers to support their album launch and distribution of music to a desirous market.
The band’s two albums have been recorded at Avis Studios Mission Press in Ndola and Sukam Tech Studios in Chingola.
