DRIVING on the Mazabuka-Kafue road has become a nightmare.
The road is in a deplorable state and there is need for the Road Development Agent (RDA) to work on it before lives are lost.
I am aware that the road was rehabilitated a few years ago but the contractor did not do a good job.
The 67-kilometre stretch from Kafue-Chirundu junction to Mazabuka now takes two hours instead of 50 minutes because of potholes, if not craters.
The RDA should quickly find a contractor to rehabilitate the road because it is an economic lifeline for the province which produces beef, coal and sugar, among others.
It is also the gateway to the Victoria Falls and the two borders at Kazungula and Sesheke, two of the country’s important entry and exit points.
A number of trucks from the Southern African Development Community use the road for trade purposes.
A good road network is key to prosperity.
