GOVERNMENT has started formalising illegal gold miners by placing them into registered cooperatives and issued with mining licences under the European Union-funded trade-related facility (TRF) project.

Last month, Government signed a two-year €1.4 million agreement to implement the EU-funded Southern African Development Community TRF project.
It is expected that operationalising the TRF project will support the development of knowledge and capacity of selected community sub-sector groups for the attainment of international standards as an indispensable ingredient for industrialisation, trade competitiveness and consumer confidence.
