LUSAKA – The Life and Journey of an Entrepreneur is an autobiography of Katongo Mulenga Maine, a former minister in the Third Republic, an international business entrepreneur and wife of a leading journalist, the late Abe Maine.
The book chronicles the author’s life from her birth place in a village called Mukosela in 1943 in the Northern Province at Northern Rhodesia, now Zambia, through her exertions in school, business, family life, a career as a nurse and fashion designer to being a politician in the first government of President Frederick Chiluba in 1991. It climaxes with reflections on her disappointment of the betrayal of a peoples’ dream by those who took over power from Kenneth Kaunda when corruption became pervasive in the Third Republic, leading to her resignation of her post of deputy minister.
Early life
The book opens with Katongo as a teenager who has to contend with the now despised culture of arranged marriages. She is destined to be married to a man old enough to be her father. The marriage has been arranged by her mother even though her father, a skilled carpenter does not seem to approve of the marriage.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
