ZAMBIANS have spurned an opportunity to enhance their social and economic rights following the unsuccessful vote on the referendum, sparking disappointment from local and international organisations.
Announcing results of the vote on the referendum at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday, Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) chairperson Justice Esau Chulu said the total number of votes cast failed to reach the threshold of 50 percent of persons entitled to vote in the referendum.
“In view of the fact that the 50 percent threshold has not been attained, the referendum is, therefore, not successful,” declared Justice Chulu.READ MORE
