Red Arrows aim for Roan Sevens title

AFTER bagging the Owen Busange Sevens Championship last weekend, Red Arrows will today target winning the Roan Sevens Rugby tournament billed for Luanshya.

Arrows, who have dominated the local scene for the last five years, are favourites to triumph but face strong competition from rivals Diggers and Kitwe Playing Field (KPF).
The Mwamba Chishimba-tutored side, who were last year declared joint champions with Impala, KPF and Arrows B, are in Pool B alongside Nkwazi, Diggers B and Ndola Wanderers.
The four semi-finalists were declared winners after it got dark and shared K10,000.
Buoyed by last weekend’s 33-22 win over Mufulira in the final in Chililabombwe, Arrows are expected to overcome the Diggers B in a Pool a match.
But Arrows know it will not be easy as the Kitwe giants are no pushovers and are capable of stunning the airmen despite fielding fringe players.
Arrows have this year won the Zambia Rugby Union 10’s, Mopani Copper Mines 15, KPF American and Mufulira Sevens titles.
Hosts Roan will start the campaign in Pool A with a tough tie against KPF.
National Rugby League leaders KPF are favourites to progress from this group which also has ‘Powerhouse’ Lusaka and Nchanga.
Mufulira, Green Buffaloes, Chibuluma and Legends will battle in Pool C while Diggers A, Konkola, Kansanshi and Arrows B will clash in Pool D.
The winner will pocket K6,000 while runners-up will get K4,000.
