I AM sad to learn about the death of High Commissioner Rayford Mbulu.
I first met him in the1990s when he was a vocal and militant Mine Workers Union of Zambia (MUZ) branch chairman in Chambeshi.
He was a fearless trade unionist who fought for workers’ rights.
I remember him leading several work stoppages at Chambeshi and was popular among the miners.
He was eventually elected MUZ president where he continued to fight for the welfare of miners.
His departure from MUZ was controversial as forces which were unhappy with his uncompromising stance connived to dethrone him.
He later became Kalulushi Mp under PF. He was always jovial and power never got to his head. His name will forever be etched in the history of MUZ.
Sincere condolences to Mrs Mbulu and family. MHSRIP
