‘I would rather be alone’

CHRISTINE CHISHA, Chongwe
A 36-YEAR OLD woman of Chongwe has told the Chongwe Local Court that she was better divorced than married to a man who is a cheater and thinks life revolves around sex.
Margaret Zulu of Mwalutema village in Chongwe said she was fed up of her husband cheating on her to the extent of impregnating a 14-year-old girl.
She told senior presiding magistrate Lazarus Mwape, who was sitting with senior local court magistrate Petland Mwansa that since April, her husband, Fred Mukisa, 45, has moved out of the house and was living with another woman.
This is in a case in which Mukisa sued Zulu for divorce.
“This man loves sex. In our 19 years of marriage we only differ when it comes to sex. On two occasions he has been arrested for sleeping with minors. He wants me to have eight children and moved out of our matrimonial home when he discovered I was on family planning,” Zulu said.
Passing judgment, the court upheld the divorce and ordered Mukisa to pay Zulu K4,000 as compensation. The money should be paid in monthly instalments of K200 and another K200 towards child maintenance.
