Meanwhile, voters in six polling stations in Chama South, Rufunsa and Mafinga constituencies started casting their votes yesterday due to the late delivery of election materials.
ECZ director Priscilla Isaacs said at a media briefing yesterday that voters in the rest of the over 50 polling stations who did not vote on Tuesday, had cast their vote yesterday.
Ms Isaacs named the affected polling stations as Chifunda, Chitemwa in Chama South, Dukwa, Kachilikila and Butonga in Mafinga and Chomba in Rufunsa.
She said the total number of registered voters in the affected constituencies is 2,724.
“In Chama North, we had a challenge in delivering materials in the affected polling stations due to a collapsed bridge. We have, however, informed the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) to airlift the materials.
“However, in some polling stations that voted yesterday [Wednesday], closing will end today [yesterday] while in other areas, we are just awaiting the collection of results,†she said.
Meanwhile, ECZ officers were yesterday afternoon harassed by party cadres, who accused the commission of using foreign nationals to tamper with the results, reports CHRISTINE CHISHA.
Ms Isaacs condemned the behaviour of the party cadres.
“We as the commission are concerned and disappointed by anxious party cadres who want to interfere with the work of the commission. Our staff at the commission are professionals who should be left alone to do their work,†she said.
Ms Isaacs said it is disappointing that while she was talking to senior party officials, the cadres were busy harassing her officers.
She said the cadres went to the extent of questioning the use of laptops and cell phones at the result centre and called for patience among political parties as the ECZ is working round-the-clock to announce results on time.
Ms Isaacs said the ECZ has respect for all the 11 presidential candidates in the race to State House.
She said the speculation should stop and it is not healthy to deal with unnecessary accusations either from UPND or PF. FDD leader Edith Nawakwi said it is the two political parties that are causing battles and harassing innocent citizens and the commission.
Ms Nawakwi said the two political parties should allow ECZ do their job, which they are mandated to do.
And PF secretary general Davies Chama said his party does not condone violence and has been on record of condemning it.
Mr Chama said, “we expect all political parties to be civil and respect the ECZ.â€
UPND member Martha Mushipe expressed concern over the delay by the ECZ in releasing the presidential election result.
