Pull up socks, Chama-Matumbo road contractor told

GOVERNMENT has urged the contractor working on the Chama-Matumbo road in Muchinga Province to speed up works and ensure a professional job is done.

Muchinga Province permanent secretary Bright Nundwe said Government expects nothing but quality works from the contractor.
“I am happy works are taking shape and Government expects more progress on the road, and hopes construction will be completed on time. The 115 km road is a vital link of Muchinga to the Eastern Province. The road will also enhance economic activities in the area,” Mr Nundwe said.
Mr Nundwe, who was speaking in an interview yesterday, said the road project, which is part of the Link Zambia 8,000, has created jobs for the local people and will further enhance agricultural activities in the two provinces.
“This is a completely new road which has created employment opportunities to the local people and will also enhance economic opportunities. It will further enhance tourist spots in Mfuwe and Luangwa national parks once completed,” Mr Nundwe said.
He said once the K399 million road is complete, tourists will have easy access to game viewing in the two national parks.
And Shiwang’andu district commissioner Everlyn Kangwa is also happy that the road from Shiwang’andu across the Luangwa River to Chama district is taking shape.
Ms Kangwa said the scope of the work being done involves the upgrading of the road to bituminous standard.
She said once the road is worked on, growing of crops such as maize and rice will be enhanced and upped to a commercial scale as farmers will have access to commercial markets.
