Public urged to invest

THE Ministry of Finance has urged the public to invest in government securities as an alternative means of saving and investment.
Ministry of Finance senior economist Moonga Tembo said civil servants, farmers and entrepreneurs should consider investing in bonds and treasury bills.
Bonds and treasury bills, which are long and short term securities with tenures from one year to 10 years and one month to one year respectively, are issued by the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) which acts as a fiscal agent of the government and comprises of primary and secondary markets.
BoZ has been promoting the uptake of government securities in view of the low volumes of local investors participating in the two financial instruments and is expected to introduce a secondary market that will enable investors sell securities before maturity
